New Manager Named for Green Line Extension Project

The MBTA has hired a new manager for the Green Line extension project, according to a recent report in The Boston Globe.

John Dalton, a former manager at the Chicago Transit Authority, will sign a five year contract as an independent contractor.

“He brings a wealth of technical knowledge, as well as familiarity with the federal funding process and the process of engaging stakeholders,” said Brian Shortsleeve, the MBTA’s acting general manager, according to The Globe report. Dalton is “exactly what is needed to drive the Green Line extension forward,” he added.

The Green Line extension to Medford and Somerville has been delayed and under review for the past several months to determine cost-saving measures following the threat of a $1 billion cost over-run.

The Green Line Extension still hinges on the release of $1 billion in funds pledged by the federal government, which did earlier in the year express provisional support.
