An underground cable fault on Riverside Avenue caused 360 Medford residents to lose power around noon time, according to National Grid spokeswoman Debbie Drew.
Drew said most people had their power restored within an hour and about 15 people still remain without service. National Grid is on the scene working to restore power to the area.
The Fire Department had to remove two manhole covers on Riverside Avenue in front of CVS. Witnesses on-scene said there might have been an explosion. Drew could not confirm if there had been an explosion but said it would not be unusual if people in the area heard some sort of sound.
Drew said there were no injuries or property damage. Traffic in the area is just about back to normal after the Square was shut down this afternoon.
