South Medford Little League goes for the Gold
|Rallies for Close Win Over Waltham Yesterday; Faces Burlington Today
The South Medford A Team muscled their way out from under a 6-0 deficit after two innings yesterday to beat Waltham 8-7 in the Baystate Baseball Tournament of Champions Trophy Weekend. The team has a shot at the Gold Trophy today when they take on the Burlington Red A Team at 12PM at West Side Field in Winchester.
Cal Ripken League Manager and coach Peter Colford, who led a team in last year’s tourney that won a Silver Trophy in the second round, said the game was one of the most exciting he’s seen in the past five years.
The team is led by coaches Lonnie Hillson and Mike LeBlanc.
Medford Americans Close out Season with Win over Andre Chiefs
Yesterday afternoon the Medford Americans and Andre Chiefs played their last game of the season at Playstead Park’s Monbouquette Field. The Americans topped the Chiefs, 11-5. Despite out-hitting the Americans the Chiefs lost an early lead in the third inning and came up short the rest of the game.Â
There is no game today at Playstead Park. The Americans finish the season with a 13-18 record and the Chiefs 9-17. The Intercity League Baseball play-offs begin today with a 4PM game between the Watertown Reds and the Cassell Club at Somerville’s Trum Field.
