Wakefield Wins Baseball Tournament
|Close Win Over Medford in Monday Night’s Championship Game
The Wakefield All-Stars pose with their trophy.
For the third year in a row Medford and Wakefield faced each other in the Medford Invitational Tournament’s championship game, but this year Wakefield emerged victorious, narrowly pulling out a 3-2 win Monday night at Columbus Park.
Wakefield held onto their lead despite a late-game rally by Medford, including an RBI triple by Sean Doncaster in the fifth inning and a solo homerun by Jeremy Breen in the sixth.
Monday night’s game capped off nearly two weeks of tournament baseball. The tournament, in its twelfth year, included eight other all-star teams from Billerica, North Cambridge, Newton, Somerville, Malden, Everett, Melrose, and Charlestown.
