Anthony Faradie has been tapped as the next boys basketball Coach at Medford High School, the Medford Daily Mercury has learned.
Faradie, 25, replaces Peter Mugar, whose contract was not renewed.
Medford High School Athletic Director Robert Maloney said Faradie – an assistant varsity coach at Stoughton High School – was selected from a pool of 35 candidates.
“I’m looking forward to it being a fresh start,” said Faradie yesterday. “I think I bring a good knowledge of the game. Even though I’m a young guy, I think I’ve been successful and I’m ready for the opportunity.”
Since 2005, Faradie has been working as an alternative education teacher in Stoughton.
A 2004 graduate of Framingham State, where he was a two-year captain for the Rams hoop team, Faradie has also served as an assistant basketball coach at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), as well as at his alma mater.
At WPI, Faradie was on the staff of former Medford High head man Chris Bartley, who led the Mustangs in the late 1990s. Medford, he said Bartley told him, is a good place to coach and a good place to live.
Coach Faradie, who plans to meet with players next week, said he hopes to build a fundamentally sound squad, full of character student athletes.
“I think our goal will be to be an intense defensive team and hopefully that will help create a good offense,” said Faradie. “We want to be the hardest working team in the state.”
