Farmers’ Market Holds Bake-Off
|Fall at the Farmers’ Market means pumpkins, apples, and fresh cider.
– Susan Altman, Market Manager
Please join us this Thursday to watch the competition among four delectable recipes featuring apples. Four Medford residents were chosen from an outstanding collection of mouth-watering recipes. The finalists will bake their creations and bring them to the Market for the bakeoff, which will begin at 3:30 pm.
A panel of judges, including Mayor Michael McGlynn, Arthur’s Bakery owner Robert Giordano, and Tufts Dining Services Director Patti Klos will sample both Swedish and Jewish apple cakes, an apple cobbler, and an apple crisp. What’s that, you say? No apple pie? Yes, surprisingly, no one submitted any apple pie recipes for the competition!
The top vote-getter will receive a Grand Prize of a $50 gift certificate from Bocelli’s Restaurant in Medford.
And after the bakeoff, stroll over to Busa Farms and choose from some of their luscious, crisp, local apples. They will have several varieties that are in season right now, plus gallons and half-gallons of fresh apple cider. And don’t forget all their other fantastic produce–tomatoes, fragrant basil, squashes, even flowers.
And remember to visit all the other vendors to stock up on breads and sweets, unique Asian veggies, olive oil, sauces, salad dressings, jewelry, Medford-originated artwork, children’s books, and more!
We will also have music for your listening pleasure. Come listen to Tim Mann playing ukulele and guitar. You can preview Tim’s lovely sounds at timmanmusic.com.Â
See you Thursday!
Editor’s note: The Medford Square Market is open every Thursday from 2PM-7PM on River Street in Medford Square. The market will run through Thursday, October 18. For more information please see MedfordSquareMarket.org.Â
