Come and explore traditional African-American gardens of the South through Vaughn Sills’ photography at 7:30PM Wednesday evening at the Royall House.

Sills, an Associate Professor of Photography at Simmons College, has been studying and photographing African-American gardens in the South for fifteen years.

“In my photography, I am able to peer intently, steadily, and curiously. Drawn almost always by beauty — a face, a creature, a garden, I photograph to know, to unravel mystery. Like images, words offer the promise of explanation; so I look to family stories, scholarly articles, and even the dictionary to help me understand the people and gardens and natural world that I photograph. Sometimes this works, and just as often, I discover more of the unknown,” said Sills.

Tonight Sills will talk about her experiences and share her pictures.

Admission is free and refreshments will be served. The Royall House is located at 15 George Street, Medford.
