2008 is only a day old and so far, according to the Federal Election Commission (FEC), the presidential candidates have raised a record $416,200,000- a sum that continues to grow daily.
More than $11,000,000 of that money came from Massachusetts donors, more than any other New England state.
Nearly $30,000 was donated by Medford residents, who favored Illinois Senator Barack Obama more than any other candidate.
Obama collected $6,915 from Medfordites from April through October 2007, and has no doubt raked in more since the last FEC reporting period.
New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, a Tufts University alum, took in $6,450 from Medford, including $1,000 from Tufts President Larry Bacow.
The candidates with the largest war chests, New York Senator Hillary Clinton and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, collected $3,980 and $4,900 in campaign contributions from Medford, respectively.
Medford and the rest of Massachusetts will head to the polls on February 5, 2008 for the presidential primary.
