There was one thing that several Medford members of the Green Line Extension Project Advisory Group agreed upon at a recent City Council meeting: the Green Line is coming to Medford, and the city has its work cut out to maximize its benefit to Medford.

“Greater and easier public transportation shouldn’t come at the expense of the environment and people’s backyards…If this project is going to come, let’s do it in a way that unifies the city, the benefits the city,” said City Councilor Fred Dello Russo, Jr., a member of the project advisory group.

Councilor Dello Russo and the City Council subcommittee on the Green Line with meet on Tuesday at 6:15PM in Room 201 at City Hall to discuss the project. The meeting is open to the public and the public is encouraged to attend.

Another Green Line meeting is planned for 6:30PM Wednesday at the Council Chambers at Medford City Hall. The general information meeting is intended to get residents up to speed on the project.

Over the next few months a series of meetings will be held in Medford and Somerville that will look at potential station locations and other important issues. The meetings are open to the public- click here to see a full schedule and more information.

Two upcoming meetings about station locations will take place in Medford- one on Thursday, January 31 at 6PM at Sophia Gordon Hall, 15 Talbot Avenue, at Tufts University, and another on Wednesday, February 6, at 6PM at the South Medford Fire Station at 0 Medford Street.

The $600 million Green Line extension to Cambridge, Somerville, and Medford is expected to be completed by 2014. The project is currently in an 18-month phase that will include applying for federal funds, creating environmental impact reports, and determining the final route and train station locations.
