School Committee to Look at State Aid at Monday Meeting
|– Allison Goldsberry
The Medford School Committee will take a look tonight at Governor Deval Patrick’s proposed budget, which increases Medford’s education aid by $413,000.
According to the state’s calculations, Medford’s school budget for 2009 will be just over $49 million, a nearly $5 million increase over fiscal year 2008. That’s roughly $9,500 per each of the 5,161 pupils in the Medford Public Schools.
Other proposed local aid to Medford is only $25,000 more than last year’s. Patrick’s budget, pending legislative approval, currently relies on anticipated casino licensing fees to supplement lottery aid to cities and towns. Under that formula, Medford will receive as much lottery aid as it did for 2008- $8,313,861.
Other items on tonight’s School Committee agenda include a report from School Superintendent Roy Belson about Medford High School’s fire alarm system, which city councilors recently questioned, and a condolence resolution for the family of student Michael Dattero, who passed away in early January.

It appears that House 1 is somewhat inflated and if the Legislature does not act on a Casino bill, many of this years fiscal situation seems to be funded by GHOST MONEY, first it is proposed then never acted upon.
This could mean lean fiscal times for theCommonwealth’s Cities and Towns…………..
