Two of Medford’s five little league terms have merged into one league, the Medford National Little League.

The merger combines the South Medford and Wellington Glenwood Little League teams, and comes after years of discussion.

“This merger was necessary to keep both districts of Medford functional, competitive and financially sound, for the next decades to come,” wrote League President David Barnes on the team’s new website.

Barnes said he expects 300 players in the new league, which like Medford’s other little league teams, services kids ages five through twelve. The merger will make more fields available for practices and games, including night games at Columbus Park.

The League already has several local sponsors and is planning for nearly twenty teams in four divisions.

Medford now has four little leagues- the newly formed National League, the West Medford Little League, the North Medford Little League, and the Cal Ripken League.
