State, Medford go for Hillary, Romney

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton handily won her party’s primary in Medford as well as the state in yesterday’s Super Tuesday election.

The New York Senator and former First Lady earned 56% of the vote in the state and 60% of the vote in Medford, compared to Senate colleague Barack Obama’s 41% and 36%, respectively.

Early numbers indicate that Clinton earned 8,059 votes in Medford to Obama’s 4,746.

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney earned 52% of the Republican primary vote in Medford and 51% statewide, compared to John McCain’s 40% and 41%, respectively. Romney got 1,765 votes in Medford while McCain received 1,352.Mitt Romney

In other primary election news, Democratic state representative candidate Sean Garballey beat Jeff Thielman Tuesday by 420 votes, according to local news website YourArlington.com. Garballey will now face Republican John Worden and indepedent candidate Robert Valeri in a special election on March 4.
