On Tuesday, March 4, voters in Arlington and West Medford will head to the polls to cast ballots for one of three Arlington residents hoping to be their next state representative.

InsideMedford.com recently caught up with the candidates, and here’s what they’ve been up to during their last week of frenetic campaigning.

Republican candidate and former Arlington Town Moderator John Worden has received the endorsement of the Massachusetts League of Environmental Voters, which cites Worden’s “strong commitment to renewable energy and public transportation.”

“We need more environmental champions on Beacon Hill and John would be a real leader on these critical issues,” said MLEV Executive Director Lora Wondolowski.

“I’m delighted to have received the endorsement…I also look forward to working hard on local environmental issues, especially renewable energy,” said Worden, who has been known to campaign in his electric car.

Rep. Ed Markey, Sean Garballey, and former rep Joe Daley. Courtesy Samuel Aaron ButlerDemocratic candidate Sean Garballey received the endorsement of US Congressman Edward Markey (D-Malden), whose congressional district includes both Arlington and Medford.

The Democratic Congressman publicly endorsed Garballey on Sunday at Arlington’s Restaurante Olivio. Rep. Markey said Garballey, who volunteered for the Congressman while in middle school, was committed to meeting the needs of the whole community and was supportive of the needs of “working men and women.”

Garballey, pictured at right with Rep. Markey and former representative Joe Daley, also received the endorsement of Governor Deval Patrick earlier in his campaign.

Robert ValeriIndependent candidate Robert Valeri, a small business owner in Arlington, announced he will forgo any compensation for the office if he is elected.

“If required by law to accept payment, I will return the money in a tax donation to the City of Medford and Town of Arlington. Since the budget deficit is so huge, this is largely a symbolic gesture, but a show of good faith to support my “budget tightening” position,” said Valeri, who last week received the endorsement of the Citizens for Limited Taxation.
