Contest Challenges Families to go Green
|The Energy Smackdown, a community-based reality contest and project of the
BrainShift Foundation is getting ready to start season two of its energy efficiency program in Arlington, Cambridge, and Medford, Massachusetts.
Each of the three competing cities has set up Leadership Committees made up of community members. The Medford’s Leadership Committee is being co-chaired by Ann Marie Cugno of the Medford School Committee and Medford State Representative.Carl Sciortino.
“One of the reasons this project has caught my interest is because it is an exciting and interactive way of educating our community on this issue,” said Cugno.
“This is a fun way to address energy conservation and global warming at the local level,” said Rep. Sciortino.
Right now we’re looking for ten households in each of the three communities to form the initial seed teams for the competition. The Energy Smackdown challenges and supports participating individuals, households, and organizations to save energy, reduce their carbon footprint and invite others to do the same. With support from local governments, businesses, and non-profits, the adventures of selected team members will be documented for broadcast on local access cable television and posted on Web casts on the Internet.
To qualify as an initial Energy Smackdown household team member, you must live in Arlington, Cambridge, or Medford, complete an application info@energysmackdown.com, and agree to the terms of use. All participants will receive a comprehensive home energy evaluation, free advice from energy experts, savings in utility and travel bills, and prizes contributed by local businesses.
