Both the Boston Red Sox and Medford Mustangs have scheduled their home openers for Tuesday afternoon.

The Sox are expected to throw out the first pitch against the Detroit Tigers at Fenway at 2:05PM. Before the game the team will collect their World Series rings in a ceremony that will also include former catcher Doug Mirabelli.

Mirabelli, along with the seven other players who played for both the 2004 and 2007 championship teams- David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, Jason Varitek, Curt Schilling, Mike Timlin, Tim Wakefield, and Kevin Youkilis- will have different rings than the others with an inscription about those two very special seasons.

Meanwhile, the Mustangs will start their game against Dracut at 4PM at Playstead Park’s Monbouquette Field.

The team, coached by former professional player and star Mustang pitcher Nick Tucci, was originally scheduled to open their season away this past weekend against Woburn, but the weather did not cooperate.

Tuesday is expected to be fifty and sunny.  Sophomore Ian Fitzgerald will start on the mound for the Mustangs.  Fitzgerald threw eight innings in two separate outings in the pre-season without giving up a run.

The Mustangs open their season today after going a perfect 3-0 in the pre-season.  Seniors Shawn O’Brien and Ben Waldrip, captain, will lead the offense against Dracut this afternoon.
