After being closed several months for renovations, the former Wild Oats supermarket is opening today as Medford’s first Whole Foods.
The store owners appeared before Tuesday night’s City Council meeting and received their license to open for business. The store’s grand re-opening is happening all day Wednesday.
“Our Whole Foods Market team is excited to join the Medford community, a neighborhood alive in arts, culture and family. Having spent my childhood in Malden, I look forward to returning to the area and establishing Whole Foods Market Medford as your neighborhood grocer,” store manager Todd McInnis wrote on the supermarket’s website.
McInnis also said the store wants to be an “active partner” in the community, and store leaders are currently meeting with several area non-profits.
The store will be open 8AM to 10PM everyday.
Whole Foods Market acquired Wild Oats at the end of August. The company, founded in Austin, Texas in 1980, takes in more than $5 billion per year in sales and has more than 300 stores in the US, Canada, and United Kingdom.
