After the Medford Mustang girls’ lacrosse team crushed Cambridge Rindge and Latin on Thursday, 13-0, the team became the first one this season to qualify for the state tournament.
The girls are 9-7 so far with two games left to play in the regular season. They head to Waltham on Tuesday and take on Reading at home on Wednesday.
The team is led by senior captain Jill Winnett, a leading scorer in the Greater Boston League.
Several other Mustang teams are vying for some post-season action and will play in some key games this week that could make or break ’em.
The varsity baseball team is just two wins away from qualifying for the state tournament. With an 8-8 overall record and four more games left to play in the regular season, the Mustangs must win at least two of them to keep their record at .500.
The team has finished up with its GBL competition and will face two non-league teams this week at home, Boston English on Monday and Woburn on Wednesday before competing in a tournament Memorial Day weekend.
The boys will be led by senior captain Ben Waldrip, one of the GBL’s top hitters, and junior Richie LeBert, a force to contend with on the mound.
The girls’ tennis team is also nearing post-season action, with two games this week that could seal the deal for them. They take on Malden on Tuesday and the O’Bryant School on Wednesday, both on the road.
