Medford Police arrested a Somerville teen in connection with a triple stabbing last week after the teen turned himself into police.

David Martinez, 18, of Somerville, was arrested last Friday night, the day after the stabbing, after he turned himself in at the police station. He is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon- a knife- and assault with intent to murder.

Police say they obtained a warrant for the alleged stabber after arresting and then releasing two other suspects the night of the stabbing, June 26.

Three teens were stabbed on Alfred Street on the Medford/Somerville line during a fight, according to witnesses. All of the victims received treatment at Massachusetts General Hospital. Two were treated and released and one individual, suffering from more serious wounds, was admitted to the hospital. The victims’ names have not been released.

Somerville Police contacted Medford Police after responding to the scene first, since Somerville cops were already in the area because of a fireworks display taking place at nearby Trum Field.

Many people were in the area to check out the fireworks and ended up witnessing the crime.

“We also received calls from other people in the area,” said Medford Police Lieutenant Paul Covino.

Medford Police thanked both Somerville Police and State Police for helping them with their investigation into the stabbing.
