Kathleen McGlynn, daughter of Mayor Michael McGlynn and former chief of staff for John Edwards’ presidential campaign, will become the deputy chief of staff for Barack Obama’s number two.
Although it has not yet been announced who will serve as Obama’s vice-presidential candidate, staff is already in place for that candidate, including John Kerry’s spokesperson, David Wade, who will serve as the vice presidential traveling spokesperson.
“Obviously, Sheila and I are very proud of her and that’s she’s been chosen to work on the vice presidential campaign,” said Mayor McGlynn.
McGlynn, 28, is well-known in Democratic circles both here in the Boston area and in Washington, DC. As Edwards’ presidential chief of staff, McGlynn handled Elizabeth Edwards’ role in the campaign and traveled with her.
McGlynn began working for the Edwards after serving as an assistant to the CEO of the Democratic Convention in 2004. Prior to 2004, McGlynn worked in the White House as an assistant scheduler for Tipper Gore.
“She is way ahead of me in the field of politics! I hope to one day achieve what she has achieved,” joked Mayor McGlynn.
McGlynn said his daughter his been involved in politics since birth, noting that her first trip to the voting booth occurred when she was just three days old when her father voted for former Mayor Marilyn Porreca. He also recalled her holding signs for his own mayoral campaign when she was just two years old.
McGlynn’s new boss will be Patti Solis Doyle, who served as campaign manager for Hillary Clinton’s failed presidential bid.
McGlynn has moved to Chicago, the home base for the Obama campaign, for her new gig.
