Police Investigate Daytime Shooting
|– Allison Goldsberry
Medford Police are on the lookout for a suspect or suspects involved in a shooting that took place in broad daylight Wednesday afternoon in a local neighborhood.
Police responded to reports of shots fired at Cherry Street and Fellsway West around 2:30PM Wednesday, but when they arrived on scene, they found no victim and no blood. A few spent shell casings on the ground were the only indication that some bullets had been fired.
Witnesses told police they heard three or four shots fired and saw two or three black males flee toward Fellsway West in a white, four-door car.
According to police, Somerville Police informed Medford a short while later that a young black male walked into Somerville Hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening gun shot wound. When Medford Police questioned the victim, he told them he had been shot in a road rage incident in West Medford, but police aren’t buying his story.
“This is the opposite end of the city from where the Cherry Street shooting occurred. It is highly unlikely that there were two separate shooting incidents in Medford today. We have not received any calls in the West Medford area for shots fired,” said Medford Police Lieutenant Paul Covino in a statement.
Police are actively investigating this case and say an arrest is imminent . They do not believe the shooting was a random act of violence in the neighborhood.
Anyone with any information is urged to contact the Medford Police Investigative Services Unit at 781-391-6765.
