Before taking the field for the third oldest high school football rivalry in the country on Thanksgiving, the Medford and Malden football teams broke bread at their annual pre-game lunch on Monday. The lunch took place at the newly-opened John Brewer’s Tavern in Malden. Sharing the meal were Medford Athletic Director Bob Maloney, Mustang Football captains John Sousa and Anthony Falco, Medford Football Coach Mike Marchese, Malden Football Coach John LoPresti, Malden Athletic Director Dan Keefe, Malden Football captains Herbens Antenor, Colin Power, Mike Gilardi, Dave Freni, and Sammy Fedna, and Malden Principal Dana Brown. Above, the Medford and Malden captains pose for a picture in front of a mural honoring the rivalry at the tavern. Last year Malden beat Medford, 7-6, and Malden leads the 121-year-old rivalry with 56 wins compared to Medford’s 54. There have been ten ties.
