Jingle Bell Festival Kicks off Wednesday
|Holiday Celebration Takes Place December 3-7
Mayor Michael J. McGlynn announced plans for the 20th Anniversary of the City’s Annual Holiday Celebration and Jingle Bell Festival, which will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2008, from 4:30PM – 7 PM at Medford City Hall.
“Thanks to the generosity of Comcast, this annual cultural event will be able to go on as planned, as Medford continues the tradition of celebrating the diversity of the holiday season,†said Mayor McGlynn in a written statement.
The free event will feature the lighting of City Hall, Medford Square, the Hanukkah Menorah, the Christmas Tree and the Kwanza Kinara. Entertainment will be provided for all ages with Loren & Wally Live from 105.7 WROR’s Morning Show featuring Medford native Hank Morse, and Radio Disney’s Rockin’ Road Show. There will be visits from Wally the Green Monster & Lefty & Rightly from the Boston Red Sox, and Cindy Lou Who from the Grinch and Santa’s Elves, which was graciously donated by John Brewers Tavern. In addition, there will be face painting, an ice sculpture artist, pony rides, a kiddie moonwalk, merry-go-round, and a temporary tattoo artist.
The annual Decorated Tree Festival will be hosted inside the Council Chamber and there will be bake sales, raffles and the opportunity to obtain personalized letters to Santa, who will also make a special visit. There will be free hot dogs graciously provided by Marty Murphy and free cupcakes generously provided by LaCascia’s Bakery, and Radio Disney will be giving out free Camp Rock & High School Musical 3 posters, all while they last!
“In the spirit of the holiday season, I am asking everyone to bring along a new, unwrapped toy for the United States Marines Annual Toys for Tots Campaign. This is an important part of this celebration as our objective is to help children in our City who may otherwise not have such a bright holiday,†said the Mayor.
Wednesday’s celebration at City Hall kicks off the Jingle Bell Festival, will take place from Wednesday, December 3 through Sunday, December 7. Special holiday trees will be on display at City Hall each day of the festival, which also includes a a Jingle Bell Rock concert on Friday and Medford house tours on Saturday and Sunday.
