Football Team Holds Banquet Sunday

The Medford Mustang Football team said good-bye to its seniors and recognized some of its key players during its banquet on Sunday at the Irish-American Club in Malden.
The following players were recognized at the banquet:
$500 David Castignetti Scholarship Award– Captain John Sousa
Once a Mustang Always a Mustang $500 Essay Winner– Captain Anthony Falco
Thanksgiving Game MVP– Quarterback Alex Krasco
Defensive Player of the Year– Fullback and Defensive End Joe Aufiero
Offensive Player of the Year– Wide Receive and Corner Back Giovani Sanders-Ruff
Ron Zampell Blue and White Award– Captain John Sousa
Team MVP– Offensive Lineman and Defensive Tackle Tony Louis

Mayor Michael McGlynn provided an update on the search for a new coach. According to McGlynn, 27 finalists have been chosen for interviews. An advisory committee is assisting School Superintendent Roy Belson, Headmaster Paul Krueger, and Athletic Director Bob Maloney with the search.
As of Friday, Maloney said the field has been narrowed down to four candidates: Medford’s interim head football coach, Mike Marchese, assistant Everett football coach Rico DelloIacono, and local coaches Joe Curran and Joe Donahue. The committee hopes to make a recommendation to Belson within the next week.
