10th Annual West Medford Open Studios April 25, 26
|Spring Arts Celebration Weekend Coming to West Medford
The following announcement is from West Medford Open Studios organizers:
With the return of spring Daffodils, and warmer weather brings a festive arts event to the neighborhood of West Medford. The West Medford Open Studios is a dynamic weekend full of art, literature, music, and general community spirit. This year the open studios will take place on April 25&26 from noon to 5pm.
Now celebrating its 10th year, WMOS has grown in leaps and bounds since its first year in 2001. “ I think that we had around 20 artists in the event our first year and we had to keep explaining what the event was about to get people on board†says WMOS president Earl Howard.
The idea that there should be a local event for artists to share their work and studios with the community grew out of many conversations between several artist neighbors. Many of the discussions took place over the fence, at a neighborhood party, and through emails. Out of these conversations, the West Medford Open Studios a neighborhood grass roots group was created.
This years WMOS will feature over 60 participants ranging from established career artists to first time up and comings. The visual art will include painting, glasswork, jewelry, ceramics, furniture, wood turned items, sculptures, photography, textiles, collage, and mixed media. Over the years the WMOS has expanded beyond hosting visual artist to include performing artists of different varieties as well. Highlights of the weekend will include lively musical performances by gospel choirs, and scheduled readings of original material by noted local writers. In the local community and beyond, it has become a much anticipated arts event.
Visitors will have the opportunity to explore this self-guided tour of the arts using maps to guide them to the exhibits in studios, homes, and community spaces throughout West Medford.
So take advantage of this free celebration of the arts, stroll through a dynamic neighborhood, learn about the process of turning wood, listen to a poetry reading, try on a beautiful necklace, and have a snack along the way as you enjoy another exciting weekend at the West Medford Open Studios, a bargain of a good time!
