The Mustang baseball team won its third game in a row with a 3-1 victory over Malden on Wednesday.
Sophomore Danny Gilchrist pitched seven strong innings against the Golden Tornadoes. He struck out seven and did not give up a single earned run. The win leaves Gilchrist with a 4-0 record.
Juniors John Mangiasi and Kyle Heath led the offensive attack for the Mustangs. Mangiasi had a big solo homerun and Heath was two for three, with the game winning RBI single in the 7th inning.
The Mustangs are 6-4 overall and 4-2 in the Greater Boston League. There are several more GBL match-ups in their schedule and Medford is looking to possibly contend for the GBL crown.
“We’re going to keep improving as the games go on. We’re going to play like the championship team we want to be,” said senior captain Richie LeBert.
Medford also hopes to qualify for the state tournament for the second year in a row. The team must maintain a .500 record or better to qualify.
The Mustangs host Cambridge at 4PM today at Playstead Park. Head Coach Nick Tucci encourages everyone to come out and support the team.
“We’d love to see you guys come cheer us on,” said Coach Tucci.
