According to Headmaster Dr. Paul Krueger, the range of college placements for the Medford High School Class of 2009 matches and in some cases exceeds that of any other MHS graduating class.
According to school officials, there are several reasons for the success of the Medford High School Class of 2009 with regard to college placements.
Dr. Krueger praised the students for their exceptional academic performance.
“On state tests the Class of 2009 has more students performing at the Advanced and Proficient levels than any other MHS graduating class, and during their years at Medford High School, these students have enrolled in more honors and Advanced Placement courses than their predecessors, have outperformed other graduating classes on Advanced Placement Exams, and have earned higher GPA’s and higher SAT scores,” said Dr. Krueger.
Krueger also credits the Guidance Department for their role in helping students find the right colleges, particularly Maria Ceddia, the school’s College Counselor.
Guidance Director Frank Howard also said Medford High School has been successful in attracting more students despite top-notch private schools in the area.
Howard said Medford High has gotten a “full cross-section” of kids from the community and has much to offer to help prepare students academically.
“Not only does Medford High offer thirty honors courses and twelve Advanced Placement courses, but it also offers a full slate of regular college prep courses, as well as a series of courses to assist English language learners and students with special needs,” said Howard.
Dr. Krueger congratulated the graduating seniors and their parents for all of their hard work.
“We all congratulate the MHS Class of 2009 on their superlative record of college placements. And we’re thrilled for their parents. After twelve exhausting years of setting high standards for their children, motivating them to do their homework, turning off the television set, and nagging them about finishing that research paper, they can now take enormous pride in the most recent accomplishments of these extraordinary young people,” said Dr. Krueger.
