Gilchrist, Medford Shut Out Londonderry

Danny Gilchrist threw a no-hitter at Hickey Park Wednesday night to lead the Medford Indians of the Merrimack Valley Senior Babe Ruth League to an 8-0 win over the team from Londonderry, NH. Gilchrist struck out 14 batters while allowing only 3 walks and one hit batter. He also had 2 hits, including a triple, and one RBI. Jack Taylor and Pedro Martinez also contributed extra base hits. Eight different players scored in a well balanced attack.

The Indians closed the first half of the season with a 10-1 record. Gilchrist leads a deep pitching staff that includes Richie Lebert, Joey Pappalardo, Jack Taylor, Nick Amirault, Shant Keikian and Andrew Ferrazzani. The pitching has been aided all season long by a solid defense up the middle that includes catcher Ryan Burgoyne, shortstop Pedro Martinez and centerfielder Andrew Hurd. With a team batting average of over .300, the offense has been very reliable. John Mangiasi has been the offensive leader of an attack that includes Mike Brancato, Andrew Pompeo, Robbie Chase and Jake Leary.
