Boys and Girls Club Seeks to Raise $85,000

The following is an announcement from the Boys & Girls Club of Middlesex County

Boys & Girls Club of Middlesex County Kicks Off its annual ‘It Just Takes One’ Campaign

Boys and Girls ClubThe 2009 “It Just Takes One” campaign got a massive boost with the announcement that the Amelia Peabody Foundation will match dollar for dollar all new donations up to $20,000. The donations will support the club’s after-school programs and services for youth ages 6 to 18 living in Cambridge, Somerville, Everett, & Medford.

Our club in Medford not only provides a place for kids to go during the summer months and after school but provides programs to help them grow. In July the kids got to participate in a Boston Bruins Street Hockey Clinic with former player Tom Songin serving as top stick. After the clinic with the former right-winger the Bruins donated all the equipment to the club so the youth can gear up at anytime of the year. With each donation it becomes easier to maintain our clubs to continue to offer such programs.

The cost of the Boys & Girls Club experience per child per year is about $550, yet thanks to donations the clubs only charge $30. To keep that cost low our dedicated board members have started spreading awareness of the campaign. We are pleased to share that they have raised nearly $15,000. However, that is only the first step to our goal of $85,000. Our youth need the aid of those in the community to raise funds to continue the mission.

All our staff, board members and volunteers strive to inspire and enable all the community’s youth, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.

Funds raised will help provide quality after-school programs such as computer skills training, career exploration, arts and crafts, fitness and sports, character and leadership programs Also it will allow the clubs to provide school supplies and provide professional development to our staff.

The Boys & Girls Club of Middlesex County, founded in 1973, is a nonprofit, privately-funded organization and depends on private donations and volunteers to accomplish its mission. To make a donation or to volunteer, contact the club’s office at 617-628-4665 or visit www.kidsclubs.org.
