Law enforcement leaders throughout the United States and Canada have elected Frederick Mahony, Chief Enforcement Agent of the Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission, to be President of the National Liquor Law Enforcement Association. The NLLEA is an association of law enforcement agents dedicated and committed to protecting public safety, improving the quality of life in our communities and improving the standards and practices of liquor law enforcement.

In 2008 the Massachusetts ABCC Enforcement Division was recognized as the national liquor law enforcement Agency of the Year for its innovative enhanced liquor enforcement programs dedicated to the prevention of underage access to alcohol, drunk driving, illegal gambling, and drug use. Since 2005 Massachusetts ABCC Investigators have conducted these programs across Massachusetts, preventing alcohol from reaching several thousand underage individuals as well as hundreds of potential drunk drivers. The United States Justice Department’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention has also recognized these programs for their success in preventing injuries and fatalities associated with underage drinking and drunk driving.

In addressing the 2008 award Mahony stated, “The Massachusetts ABCC has become a national leader in the implementation of programs for the prevention of underage drinking and drunk driving. There should be no doubt that the committment to this effort over the past few years has prevented some of the potential tragedies associated with alcohol abuse”.

In 2004 Chief Mahony was named the national Agent of the Year for his leadership in ensuring effective liquor law enforcement in Massachusetts.
