Medford Residents Help AC XC Beat Matignon
|Cougar Cross-Country Team Opens Season with Victory

The Arlington Catholic Boys and Girls Cross Country teams opened their 2009 season with a double victory over Matignon, with the boys winning by a score of 19 to 43 (low score wins) and the girls winning convincingly 15-50 over the 2.7 mile course.
AC Junior Joe Donlon (Stoneham) was the winner, outlasting Matignon’s Charlie Fitting with a time of 16:07. AC freshman sensation Kevin Connors (Belmont) placed 3rd, followed by Cougar sophomores Chris Laffery (Billerica) and Kyle Liberti (Medford), junior Andrew Cohen (Somerville), and senior Jon Mancini (Arlington).
The AC Girls Team nabbed the first eight spots, with senior Corinne LaVassuer (Melrose) winning the race with a time of 20:29. She was followed closely by outstanding freshman Jonelle Solviletti (Billerica), sophomore Bridgit Kirkpatrick (Medford), senior Harriet Gabbidion (Malden), sophomore Mary Stanton (Woburn), Linda Bueler (Melrose), junior Lauren Reis (Winchester), and Bonnie Ferreira (Somerville).
The Cougars’ next race is Tuesday, September 22 at their home course of Menotomy Rocks Park in Arlington. They take on tough rival Archbishop Williams at 3:45PM.
The Cougars are coached by Medford High School digital media teacher Jack Dempsey.
