Mustangs Put Down Tigers, 42-14

Ipswich Continues Winless Streak with Loss to Medford

– Allison Goldsberry

The Medford football team improves to 5-4 and has a winning record for the first time in over two seasons with their 42-14 victory over Ipswich Friday night.

The Mustangs appeared to be taking the Tigers, winless since their Superbowl victory in 2006, too lightly early in the first quarter.  Ipswich scored a touchdown and then the Mustang offense and defense lit up, with Medford dominating for the remainder of the game.

Senior captain Giovanni Sanders continued to stand out for the Mustangs. Sanders scored two touchdowns, including on a punt return he picked up on the fifteen yard line in the second quarter.

Junior Ronnie Pitterson had two clutch interceptions for Medford, scoring on one he snagged at the 41-yard line in the second quarter. In the third quarter he ran for seventeen yards on his interception before being brought down by the Tigers at the nine yard line, setting up a touchdown run for senior quarterback Alex Krasco.

Senior De’Andre Williams and junior Rob DeLuca also scored touchdowns for the Mustangs, while freshman Esad Dzoloto was a key kicker for Medford.

Medford’s defense was strong, with Tony Louis, Joe Aufiero, Phil Chery, and Nick Murphy all contributing to a nice defensive effort by the Mustangs.

Medford is off this coming week and will wrap up its season with the annual Thanksgiving Day classic against Malden at 10AM at Hormel Stadium. Malden has 57 Turkey Day wins to Medford’s 54. The last time the Mustangs beat the Golden Tornadoes was in 2006.

Medford is currently 5-4 overall and 2-1 in the Greater Boston League.
