Rep. Garballey Donates Raise to Community

The following is an announcement from State Representative Sean Garballey (D-Arlington, Medford):

A Promise Kept: Representative Garballey donates raise to the West Medford Community Center

In one of the most difficult economic climates in the state’s history Representative Garballey is fulfilling a promise that he made last year when the legislature received a pay raise.

“With having to make extremely difficult fiscal choices I thought that it would be extremely bad policy and a poor leadership decision to accept a pay raise during a time period when the legislature is cutting essential services.”

Representative Garballey will donate a significant amount of the raise to the West Medford Community Center. The West Medford Community Center is located at 111 Arlington Street in Medford, MA. The West Medford Community Center has played an extremely important role throughout West Medford’s history in providing essential programs for residents and connecting members of the community with one another. “The West Medford Community Center plays an extremely important role in providing essential programs for children and adults. I have always been impressed with the way that the West Medford Community Center reaches the needs of the community. ”

If you would like to make a monetary donation to the West Medford Community Center or volunteer please contact the center for more information at 781-488-1710. Representative Garballey can be reached at his office at 617-722-2400 or on his cell phone at 781-859-7781.

Editor’s Note: Rep. Garballey also donated a portion of his 5.5% ($3,203) raise to the Arlington Food Pantry. The constitutionally-mandated raise went into effect last January and pushed the base pay of a state legislator to $61,440, according to YourArlington.com.
