Four new faces will join the School Committee in January 2010. George Scarpelli, John Falco, Sharon Guzik, and Bill O’Keefe will replace departing long-time members Alfred Pompeo, Lena DiGiantommaso, Robert E. Skerry, Jr., and William Brady.
Coakley Seals Deal, Wins Democratic Bid for Senate
Medford resident and current Attorney General Martha Coakley is poised to become the first female US Senator from Massachusetts. Coakley beat three other candidates to win the Democratic nomination.
Green Line Costs Creep Closer to $1 Billion
The Green Line extension to Medford and Somerville, once estimated to cost $600 million, is expected to cost upwards of $1 billion by the time it is completed in 2014. The 2014 date only includes bringing the Green Line to College Avenue. The extension to Route 16 would be completed during a second phase somewhere between 2016 and 2020, and is contingent upon the receipt of federal funds.
New MHS Football Coach Turns Team Around
It has been over ten years since the Medford Mustang football team had a winning record and thanks to new head coach Rico Dello Iacono, the Mustangs finished with a respectable 5-5 record this season. The five games Medford won are more than what the team won in the past three seasons combined.
The Beelzebubs, an all-male a cappella group from Tufts University, help put Tufts and a cappella on the map by entertaining millions on TV. The Bubs came in second place on NBC’s reality competition “The Sing Off.”
