The Medford High School boys varsity basketball team closed their regular season with a 51-41 victory over Winchester on Wednesday.
Senior captain Andrew White earned a game-high thirty-four points for the Mustangs and had eight rebounds.
White is just eighteen points shy of earning 1,000 points over his entire high school career, according to Head Coach Anthony Faradie.
Wednesday’s victory over Winchester followed a close 58-55 win over Billerica on Monday. Despite handily beating Billerica by almost twenty points in December, Medford had a tough time sealing the deal, with its offense not completely coming alive until the second half.
The Mustangs are 12-8 heading into the state tournament. They have a bye in the first round and will head to Acton-Boxborough on Tuesday, February 23 at 7PM. Acton-Boxborough, 18-2, is seeded fourth, while Medford is seeded thirteenth.
Fellow Greater Boston League teams Malden (11-9) and Cambridge (17-3) will join Medford in the North Division 1 state tournament. Malden, seeded fifteenth, will head to number 2 seed Lynn English (19-1) on Tuesday, while Cambridge, seeded fifth, will host number 12 seed Lowell (11-7) on Monday.
Medford has not qualified for the state tourney since 1999.
