After dropping the season opener against Dracut, Head Coach Matt Galusi and the girls varsity lacrosse team rebounded with back to back to back wins.
The Mustangs defeated Haverhill, 8-4, at home last Wednesday. Lauren O’Connor had three goals for the Medford and sophomore Rachel Keen did a great job tending net for the Mustangs.
On Thursday Medford pulled out a close 8-7 victory over Gloucester in enemy territory.
“We just won a tough one…it was a real physical, challenging game but we pulled through,” said Coach Galusi.
Olivia Timmons, Madie Forcier, and O’Connor each scored two goals for Medford, while Francesca Alfonso and Leanne Bordonaro each had one goal.
Coach Galusi praised Keen for her job in the net.
“When we really needed her she turned back the tide and kept us secure in the victory,” said Galusi.
On Monday the Mustangs pulled out a lopsided, 17-6 victory over Essex Agricultural Institute. O’Connor and Forcier each had five goals, while Timmons had four. Alfonso, Bordonaro, and Deanna Cavallaro each had one goal.
“It started out slow but we got it together,” said Coach Galusi.
Medford is “sitting pretty right now” at 3-1. Their next game is Thursday, April 15 against Lowell High School at 4:00PM at Hormel Stadium.
Both the boys and girls lacrosse teams are playing their home games at Hormel due to the construction of new fields behind the high school.
