Mustang Softball Blanks Waltham, 7-0

After losing to archrival Malden earlier in the week, the varsity girls softball team got a strong two-hit pitching performance from senior Jessica Mortelite to defeat Waltham in a non-league contest 7-0 at Tufts Park on Friday morning. Mortelite struck out three and walked two in a complete game victory.
The Medford nine had a balanced hitting attack, with sophomore Jackie Pellecchia leading the way with two hits and two RBI’s. Junior Kasey Moran chipped in with two hits while junior Kristina Bove contributed one hit with two RBI’s. Senior JT Rizzo had one hit, one RBI, and made a spectacular running catch in center field. Senior Kate Smith banged out one hit and stole three bases, while senior captain Nicole Lopilato and junior Sarah Moulton each had a single.
The Lady Mustangs’ record now stands at four wins and two losses. They are currently winless in the Greater Boston League with one loss and will be looking for a GBL victory when they head to Somerville on Tuesday, April 27.
