It’s been awhile since the Medford High School varsity baseball and softball teams hosted state tournament games, and it certainly isn’t often that both teams host the same school on the same day.
The Mustangs will both host Westford Academy on Saturday to open up their first round of state tournament competition.
The varsity baseball team, 16-4, plays Westford Academy at Playstead Park at 3:00PM.
Medford, seeded 4th in the MIAA North Division 1, received a bye in the preliminary round in the tournament due to the strength of its record. Westford Academy (11-9) is seeded 13th among 19 teams.
The winner of Saturday’s game will play either Acton-Boxboro (15-5) or St. John’s Prep (12-8) on Monday, June 7.
Everett (13-7), Malden Catholic (11-9), Cambridge (11-7), and Malden (11-9) also qualified for the state tournament.
The varsity softball team, 10-8, will take on Westford Academy at 5:00PM at Tufts Park in Medford.
The Lady Mustangs are seeded 14th out of 19 teams in the North Division 1. Westford Academy (10-10) is seeded last.
The winner of Saturday’s game heads to Acton-Boxboro (17-3), the third seed.
The Malden softball team (14-6) received the 8th seed and Everett (13-7) is seeded 9th. Both GBL teams received a bye in the preliminary round of the tournament and face each other on Thursday, June 3 at 3:30PM in Malden.
