New- Girls and Boys Soccer Video Highlights
Both the Medford High School boys and girls varsity soccer teams shut out their opponents on Friday.
The girls were led by midfielder Alisa Vita, whose hat trick helped lift the Mustangs 5-0 over Cambridge. Goals were also scored by Lisa Bandoian and Regine Jacques. On Monday, the girls hosted Winthrop and won 2-1, with freshman Alessia LaRocca scoring both of the Mustangs’ goals.
The boys blanked Marblehead 3-0. Senior captain Rico Altema got it started with a goal in the first ten minutes of the game. Freshman Erik Baptista, with an assist by junior Jeff Mwangi, scored the Mustangs’ second goal close to the end of the first half. The team’s final goal was scored by sophomore Jonathan Pires with an assist by junior Emmanuel Gonzalez. The Mustangs, who controlled the game from the first kick, were led defensively by Altema, Matheus Anastacio, Tenzin Choepak and Gilbert Simas.
On Sunday the Mustangs, now 4-1-1, ended up with a 4-4 tie game against Cambridge. Gonzalez and Pires led the offense, with Pires scoring two goals and Gonzalez netting one as well as inadvertently assisting a Cambridge defender, who mistakenly put it in the net for the Mustangs.
