Rep. Sciortino Wins Key Environmental Endorsements

The Committee to Re-Elect Rep. Carl Sciortino today announced that Clean Water Action, the Sierra Club, the Massachusetts Organization of State Engineers and Scientists, and the Massachusetts League of Environmental Voters have endorsed Rep. Sciortino in his bid for re-election.

“Environmental protection is a key to a strong, vibrant community and I am grateful to be supported by these organizations,” said Rep. Sciortino. “I have done a lot of work on the MBTA Green Line Extension which addresses environmental issues such as air-pollution and reducing the number of cars on the road, while also creating much needed jobs. I will continue to fight for the residents of Medford and Somerville to ensure that the state upholds its legal obligations, and that the project is completed in a manner that best serves the people of the area.”

Rep. Sciortino is a three-term Democratic State Representative in the 34th Middlesex District, serving Somerville and Medford. In his fight for the Green Line extension, Rep. Sciortino has worked on issues regarding the project’s delayed deadline, community path build-out in Somerville, the level of public involvement, mitigation issues for abutters, and the extension to Route 16.

Rep. Sciortino has been also been endorsed by the American Federation of Teachers-Massachusetts, the Boston Teachers Union, the Massachusetts Teachers Association, the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Organization for Women, NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts, MassEquality, Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts, Mass Alliance, the Victory Fund, the Massachusetts Gay and Lesbian Political Caucus, the Progressive Democrats of Somerville, and the Bay State Stonewall Democrats. Senator Jehlen Receives Education, Environmental Endorsements

State senator Patricia Jehlen (D) Somerville has been endorsed by the state’s leading education organizations including The Massachusetts Teachers Association, the Boston Teachers Union and the American Federation of Teachers.

Senator Jehlen, a former school teacher and School Committee member considers education to be one of her highest priorities.

“Massachusetts schools are second to none,” Senator Jehlen said. “Of course this does not happen by accident, we need to continue to invest the proper resources into our schools and to work with and respect the dedicated professionals who teach our children. My goal is to ensure that all of our schools are funded in a way that is fair and adequate.”

The Massachusetts Teachers Association said “We are proud to endorse Senator Pat Jehlen in her re-election. On issues from Chapter 70 funding to charter schools and MCAS, Pat has been a tireless advocate for public education.”

Sen. Jehlen was also recently endorsed by the Humane Society of Massachusetts and the Environmental League of Massachusetts, Clean Water Action and the Sierra Club.

Senator Jehlen is running for reelection in the Second Middlesex District representing Somerville, Medford, Winchester and part of Woburn. Election Day is Tuesday November 2nd.
