Girls, Boys Soccer Clinch GBL Title

Both the boys and girls varsity soccer teams clinched the Greater Boston League title with victories over Cambridge on Friday. Both teams are also undefeated in the league. According to Athletic Director Bob Maloney, 1991 is the last time both the boys and girls soccer teams earned the league title in the same season.
The Lady Mustangs defeated the Falcons, 1-0. Regine Jacques scored the teams’ lone goal and goalie Jackie Pellechia recorded her eighth shutout victory of the season.
Medford, 9-2-1, is undefeated in the GBL with a 6-0 record. The Mustangs host Newton North on Monday.

After tying Cambridge the last time the two teams met, the boys soccer team defeated the Falcons Friday 2-0. Junior John Dumbuya scored both of Medford’s goals, the first early in the first half and the second early in the second half. Dumbuya was assisted by junior Gilbert Simas on his second goal.
“The Mustangs dominated the entire game at both ends of the soccer field,” said Boys Freshman Soccer Coach Mike Cugno.
Medford is 8-1-5 overall and is 5-0-2 in the GBL. Next up for the Mustangs is a trip to Everett on Friday, October 22.
