Where is it All Going to Go?

January 27 snow

The third snow storm of 2011- and the fourth storm counting a post-Christmas blizzard- has dumped around ten inches of snow on Medford. Snow is piled high in yards and along the side of the road, leaving people wondering where this snow and any more could possibly go. Despite all the snow, it’s not the snowiest January on record, though it’s close, according to WHDH meteorologist Pete Bouchard. The snowiest January was in 2005, with a staggering 43.1 inches of snow. The January of 1996 is the second snowiest, with 39.8 inches of snow, followed by January 1978, with 35.9 inches. This most recent storm has brought this year’s total (as measured at Logan Airport), to 38.3 inches, which would put it in third and within reach of the 2005 record. The average snowfall for January is around eleven inches. Photos above by Paul Rapatano.
