Rotary Club Keeps Busy with Community Projects
|The Medford Rotary Club actively supports the community in a variety of ways. In addition to a recent donation to the Medford Public Schools’ “Kindles for Kids” initiative, the club distributed dictionaries to Medford third graders and distributed boxes of food to needy families over the holidays.

Each year the Medford Rotary Club distributes dictionaries to every third grade student in the city. In addition, the students receive a bookmark listing the US presidents and US capitols.
“The Medford Rotary Club has supported education in the City of Medford for many years through our scholarship program for graduating high school seniors. We are proud to strengthen our commitment to education in Medford by providing a dictionary to every third grade student in the City of Medford,” said a club statement.
“It is our hope that through this effort we can help the students in the Medford school system do their best work.”

This past December, the Rotary Club handed out over 190 Christmas baskets.
“This was our largest distribution. In harder economic times, the amount of baskets seems to be growing. Baskets were distributed to local charities, churches, and shelters throughout the City of Medford,” said Doug Shoop, Rotary Club President.
Rotary was helped out again by the Medford Vocational School, who collected canned goods in a drive at the school. They contributed them to the baskets and helped Rotarians fill them on December 21. Rotary contributed over $7,000 towards purchasing the food, turkeys and all the fixing’s.
The Christmas Basket Program is an annual event for the Medford Rotary. To date, thousands of local families have benefited from the project.
