Boys Hockey Opens States with Reading

The Mustang boys varsity hockey team opened up the first round of the state tournament with a tough opponent on Wednesday. The 6-13-1 Greater Boston League champion Mustangs were seeded last among fifteen teams in North Division 1 and suffered an on-the-road loss to second seed Reading (15-6-1), falling 6-0.
In Division 1A ice hockey, Malden Catholic, 16-2-2, is the top seed in the Super Eight. They play #8 seed Central Catholic (16-5-1) at 6:00PM on March 5, Hingham (#5, 13-5-4) on March 8, and Weymouth (#4, 17-3-2) on March 14. All games are at Merrimack. The teams all play each other and the winner could face St. John’s Prep (#2, 14-5-1), Needham (#6, 12-6-4), BC High (#3, 13-4-3), or Woburn (#7, 17-13-1).
