Prep Work Continues April 10-April 15

Work crews will continue construction activities in preparation for the upcoming replacement of the fourteen deteriorated bridge superstructures on Route I-93 in Medford. The primary work activities will take place on Sunday, April 10, 2011 through Friday, April 15, 2011 between 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM. Additional activities will occur, when feasible, during the day between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

The following work activities and related lane closures are scheduled to occur:

Route I-93 Southbound

– Right lane closure in place in the area of the northern median crossover prior to Exit 33 (Route 28) near the Stoneham/Medford line and in the area of the southern median crossover beyond Exit 30 (Route 38) near the Medford/Somerville line on Monday, April 11 and Tuesday, April 12 from 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM.

Route I-93 Northbound

– Double left lane closures at various locations within the project limits on Sunday, April 10 through Tuesday, April 12 from 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM. The first lane will be closed at approximately 8:00 PM and the second left lane will be closed at 9:00 PM.

– Double right lane closures at various locations within the project limits on Wednesday, April 13 and Thursday, April 14 from 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM. The first lane will be closed at approximately 8:00 PM and the second left lane will be closed at 9:00 PM.

– Double left lane closure in the area of the southern median crossover beyond Exit 29 (Routes 28/38) near the Somerville/Medford line and in the area of the northern median crossover beyond Exit 33 (Route 28) near the Medford/Stoneham line on Sunday, April 10 to Friday, April 15 from 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM. The first lane will be closed at approximately 8:00 PM and the second left lane will be closed at 9:00 PM.

– Double left lane closure between Exit 29 (Routes 28/38) and Exit 33 (Route 28) on Sunday, April 10 through Thursday, April 14 between 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM. The first lane will be closed at approximately 8:00 PM and the second left lane will be closed at 9:00 PM.

In addition, work crews will complete grading activities and related work in the area of the northern median crossover located near Exit 33 (Route 28) near the Medford/Stoneham line. The work will occur during the day between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM Monday, April 11 through Friday, April 15. This activity will require the closure of the left lane on I-93 northbound and/or southbound.

Local Roadways

– Intermittent single lane and shoulder closures on Riverside Avenue beneath I-93 on Monday, April 11 through Friday, April 15 from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Pedestrian access will be maintained.

MassDOT encourages drivers to allow extra time for their trips and to reduce speed and use caution when travelling through all work zones.
