Girls Lax Undefeated with Four Wins

– Allison Goldsberry

The latest victory for the girls varsity lacrosse team came on the road against Cambridge on Thursday. The Mustangs routed the Falcons, 16-1.

Goalie Rachel Keene was “huge in the net,” said Coach Galusi, racking up eight saves. Olivia Timmins continued to lead the team’s offense, adding six goals and three assists. In four games Timmins has an impressive twenty goals and seven assists.

Several Lady Mustangs got a piece of the offensive action. Madie Forcier had two goals, Alana Viveiros contributed a goal and an assist, Christina Vickers added two goals and an assist, Amanda Goguen scored two goals, Lee Williams had a goal and an assist, and Kathleen Harding had an assist.

Mustang defenders Jamie deRosas, Deanna Cavallaro, and Katie O’Brien got in on the offense, with deRosas contributing a goal and two assists and Cavallaro and O’Brien each adding an assist.

The highlight of the game, said Coach Galusi, was a goal scored by backup goalie Bianca Nargi. It was her first goal of the season.

“The kid was just smiling ear to ear. That’s why we coach right there,” said Galusi.

Medford’s 4-0 start is the first time in the history of the program. The team, reigning Greater Boston League champions, are currently 2-0 in the league.

The biggest challenge for Medford so far will be a matchup with a tough Central Catholic next Tuesday. Central Catholic is also undefeated and the game has “major tournament implications,” said Coach Galusi.

“I believe in these girls and they believe in themselves. They’re playing tremendous lacrosse and I’m really proud of them,” said Coach Galusi.

The next home game for the Mustangs is Saturday, April 23 against North Reading at 10AM.
