Voke Body Shop ‘Goes Green’ with Color

The Automotive Collision Repair shop is in the process of going to waterborne base colors for all its automotive refinishing. Green technology is a goal of the collision technology program, according to Collision Technology Instructor Joseph Kinch. Thanks to PPG, Kwik and Keystone Automotive, all the PPG Aquabase waterborne technology to the collision technology program has been donated. They also sent two students free of charge to PPG training center in Winsor Locks, CT, for a day of intense waterborne refinish training. The two students are only a handful of Vocational school students to be Waterborne refinish certified.

Changing over to green technology was a challenge as the air compressors and spray booth were not up to the task. Mr. Mahoney set in motion to go green, first with doing away with the noisy, energy sucking air compressors and replacing them with one energy efficient, quiet moisture-free compressor. The spray booth was also retro-fit to accept the water-based technology.

The collision technology program is now up to par with the best collision shops in the country with green, waterborne refinish capability.
