Lady Mustang Lacrosse Maintains Strong Record

– Allison Goldsberry

The girls varsity lacrosse team is off to its best start in program history, with Monday’s lopsided victory over Dracut improving the Mustangs’ record to 7-1.

According to Head Coach Matt Galusi, every girl on the varsity roster had a piece of the action in the 17-6 win over Dracut. Olivia Timmins continued to lead the offense, dropping five goals and one assist. Madie Forcier added three goals and an assist, while Katherine Timmins had two goals and an assist. Kathleen Harding, Sophie Karon, Jamie deRosas, Katie O’Brien, Ericka Silva, Lydia Regan, and Christina Vickers each contributed a goal.

Alana Viveiros was a “great facilitator” with three assists, “directing traffic” and helping move along the offensive attack, according to Coach Galusi.

Rachel Keene and Bianca Nargi again did the job in the Mustang net, with Keene making nine saves and Nargi making five saves.

On Wednesday Medford faces a tough game at Shawsheen before returning home for a special game on Thursday. Weather permitting, at 6PM the Lady Mustangs will host the Malden Golden Tornadoes for a “Pink-Out” fundraiser lacrosse game. All of the proceeds will go to the Susan G. Komen Fund for breast cancer research. This event will feature a DJ, raffles, a silent auction, face painting for the children and light refreshments.

“We strongly encourage the community to come out to the game and wear pink to support the cause,” said Coach Galusi.
