Going into its 12th year, WMOS has continued to grow rapidly but at the same time stay within the area of the lovely West Medford neighborhood. “We try to have small groupings of artists at locations that are fairly close together so that people can experience as much as possible within the weekend” says board member Monique Doherty. “We feel that this is one special quality of our open studios event that makes it even more enjoyable and manageable for our guests.†Doherty adds. Growing in leaps and bounds through the years, this year WMOS is showcasing over 70 artists participating at 29 sites throughout West Medford. Locations include community buildings, homes, and studios in the neighborhood. Using a WMOS map, visitors have the opportunity to visit all the sites at their leisure throughout the weekend.
The range of visual art will include paintings, glasswork, jewelry, refurbished furniture, pottery, bead work, turned wood, photography, textiles, and more. Highlights of the weekend will also include family friendly musical performances by an urban folk band, student rock bands and open jam sessions. There will also be scheduled readings of original material by local writers.
So take a neighborhood stroll, meet a friend and take time to ask a question or two as you look at the one-of-a-kind artwork. Just don’t miss out on the festivities of the West Medford Open Studios!
