Girls Lacrosse Keeps GBL Winning Streak Alive
|– Allison Goldsberry
The girls varsity lacrosse team hasn’t lost a Greater Boston League game in three years and notched its twelfth straight GBL win with a 17-2 victory over Cambridge on Tuesday.
In Head Coach Matt Galusi’s words, it’s a GBL Champs “threepeat” for the team, which has earned the GBL title for the past three seasons.
Senior Olivia Timmins continued to lead the Mustang offense, dropping five goals and two assists. Timmins had seventy-three points so far this season, with fifty-four goals and nineteen assists.
Senior Madie Forcier contributed three goals and two assists, Ericka Silva added two goals, Deanna Cavallaro, a defender, had two goals, and Alana Viveiros, Katherine Timmins, Amanda Goguen, Cassidy Lebert, and Sophie Karon each contributed a goal.
Goalie Bianca Nargi, despite “not seeing a whole lot of action,” made five saves in the net for Medford.
The team is currently 4-0 in the GBL and 11-1 overall heading into a tough stretch of the season that will truly test the Mustangs. Medford is leaving the comfort of its two GBL opponents, Cambridge and Malden, to play teams like Waltham, Central Catholic, North Reading, and Andover.
“The season’s about to get real tough,” said Coach Galusi.
Thursday, May 18, is Senior Night and the Mustangs will host Haverhill under the lights at 7PM. The team’s seniors will be honored before the game.
