After spotting the Somerville Highlander Girls softball team five runs in the first inning, the Mustang softball team roared back with eighteen unanswered runs en route to an impressive 21-5 home victory on Thursday.
The Medford girls banged out eighteen hits, with freshman Sarah Donnelly leading the way with four hits, six RBI’s, and a “huge” triple that drove in a pair of runs in the team’s second inning comeback, said Head Coach Jack Dempsey.
Senior captains Kristina Bove and Sarah Moulton each had “outstanding” games. Bove was 3-3 with four RBI’s and four runs scored while picking up her fifth victory on the mound and Moulton hammered two doubles and a single, bringing home four runs and scoring two runs herself.
Sam LoPilato contributed a double, single, and two RBI’s, Christina Sweeney had two singles, Jackie Smock and Lauren Walsh each had a single, and Katie Napier had a slap hit and a run scored. Senior captain Kasey Moran walked twice and scored two runs while junior Jackie Pellecchia walked three times and scored four more to add to the final total.
Medford is 8-3 heading into a Friday night game in Revere and a Saturday home game at 10AM versus Framingham.
The team is also planning a “Fun Day†event on Saturday, May 14 that will include a youth softball clinic, a homerun derby, a barbecue, contests, and raffles. The event is taking place from 3-6PM on the fields behind Medford High and will be in the gym if it’s raining. The cost to participate in the youth clinic is $10.
Senior captain and pitcher Kristina Bove continues to be an offensive and defensive leader for the Mustangs.
Senior captain Sarah Moulton can always be counted on for some key hits.
